Channel Faith (Sp) is a Paladin class feature, replacing detect evil for all archetypes that have it (and detect good for evil paladins). When activating channel faith, the paladin summons the power of their deity to cast a simple spell-like ability, with details depending on the deity in question. Details on various deities' channel abilities are listed below.
If a channeled ability requires a saving throw (including if it is based on a spell with a saving throw), the DC is equal to 14 + the paladin's Charisma modifier unless stated otherwise. Use paladin level as caster level when relevant.
At will, the paladin can spend a move action to gain the effects of deathwatch for one round. They can also, as a swift action, concentrate on a single creature within 60 feet and determine its condition (as though looking at it through the standard spell).
At will, the paladin can use detect magic, as the spell. A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is magic, learning the strength and school of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the paladin does not detect magic in any other object or individual within range.
Additionally, paladins of Julianos gain Knowledge (arcana) as a class skill.
At will, the paladin can use Clarissa's confusing speech, as the spell, except that the range is touch, and the duration cannot exceed 5 rounds.
The paladin possesses an unnatural aesthetic. This has two modes: in the first, their unreal beauty grants a +2 to all Diplomacy checks; in the second, their uncanny visage grants a +2 to all Intimidate checks. At level 10, both bonuses increase to +4. Switching between the two is a move action, appearing to onlookers as simply a change of expression.
This bonus does not apply if the checks are made against a paladin of Rethisan. A paladin of Nerium is unaffected by Rethisan's channel faith ability.
Though channel faith is usually a spell-like ability, Nerium's is instead a constant supernatural ability. Additionally, paladins of Nerium gain Bluff as a class skill.
At will, the paladin can use detect poison or diagnose disease, as the spells.
At will, the paladin can place their hand on a creature and summon the power of truth. The creature must make a Will saving throw or be unable to lie for the duration of the spell (concentration, though if the paladin's hand is removed from the creature, the spell immediately ends). For the duration, the paladin's hand and eyes glow faintly white--the hand's glow is not noticeable in bright light, and this does not increase visibility in dim light or darkness.
This ability has no effect on any paladin of Nerium. A paladin of Rethisan is unaffected by Nerium's channel faith ability.
Additionally, antipaladins of Rethisan gain Diplomacy as a class skill in place of Bluff.
At will, the paladin can use detect undead, as the spell. A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single individual within 60 feet and determine if it is undead, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual, the paladin does not detect undead auras elsewhere within range.
In their daily period of prayer, the paladin gains a protective aura, as though they were subject to sanctuary, except that the duration is 24 hours and as noted here. Creatures that fail the Will save to attack the paladin can make another attempt one minute later, and again one minute after that, and so on; all saves after the first are made at a -2 penalty. As normal, this can be dispelled by dispel magic and similar effects or suppressed by an antimagic field, and it is instantly dispelled if the paladin attacks or takes any directly harmful action.
If a paladin's god is not listed, or the player is not interested in any of the listed channel abilities, they can take one of these alternative options. These are available to paladins of any deity, unless stated otherwise.
- Detect Faith: As a move action, the paladin can gain knowledge of fellow worshipers in the area as though they had cast the spell detect the faithful and concentrated for three rounds.
- Perceptive: The paladin gains a +2 to all Sense Motive checks. At level 10, this increases to +4.
